Then I also disabled the atheros drivers. Using lspci and lspci -n, I can say PCI id is 168c:0042. But Acer website has three atheros drivers. I could not figure out which one to download but downloaded one on a windows PC and pasted the zip file on my desktop then unzipped it from the terminal using unzip .zip. The page says you have to go to control panel system hardware and all that on the windows system. I did not do it. Windows computer not being mine, I am afraid I should not install any additional driver on it. After unzipping it has one .inx file and one .bin file but no .sys file. I don't know whether I am completely right till here or have I missed something? And if I am right then how to proceed from here? I also made a new directory and copied the unzipped .inx and .bin files in it. Then in that directory I ran the ndiswrapper -i .inf but it says ndiswrapper not installed and when I do sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common, I get the reply that ndiswrapper-common is already the latest version. What to do? here is my dmesg | grep ath10k result [ 7.882758] ath10k_pci 0000:03:00.0: pci irq msi-x interrupts 8 irq_mode 0 reset_mode 0[ 8.190016] ath10k_pci 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/cal-pci-0000:03:00.0.bin failed with error -2[ 8.334587] ath10k_pci 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/board-2.bin failed with error -2[ 10.140677] ath10k_pci 0000:03:00.0: qca9377 hw1.0 (0x05020000, 0x003820ff sub 105b:e09a) fw WLAN.TF.1.0-00267-1 fwapi 5 bdapi 1 htt-ver 3.1 wmi-op 4 htt-op 3 cal otp max-sta 32 raw 0 hwcrypto 1 features ignore-otp[ 10.140682] ath10k_pci 0000:03:00.0: debug 0 debugfs 0 tracing 0 dfs 0 testmode 0Here is the output of lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
Ok found the difference, and btw mine works now. I have ubuntu 15.10 installed and up to date. It picks up on the wireless card fine after the upgrade. If you do not want to upgrade to 15.10, i bet once you upgrade to 16.04 later this month you should see it working. The following shows that ubuntu knows mine is there:*-networkdescription: Ethernet interfaceproduct: Killer E220x Gigabit Ethernet Controllervendor: Qualcomm Atherosphysical id: 0bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0logical name: enp2s0version: 10serial: 34:e6:d7:25:6d:95size: 100Mbit/scapacity: 1Gbit/swidth: 64 bitsclock: 33MHzcapabilities: pm pciexpress msi msix bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt-fd autonegotiationconfiguration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=alx duplex=full ip=192.168.50.235 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=100Mbit/sresources: irq:42 memory:f7400000-f743ffff ioport:d000(size=128)*-networkdescription: Wireless interfaceproduct: QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adaptervendor: Qualcomm Atherosphysical id: 0bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0logical name: wlp3s0version: 20serial: 2c:33:7a:69:8d:8bwidth: 64 bitsclock: 33MHzcapabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wirelessconfiguration: broadcast=yes driver=ath10k_pci driverversion=4.2.0-35-generic firmware=WLAN.RM.1.1-00141 latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abgnresources: irq:34 memory:f6800000-f69fffff
I downloaded kernel from Arch, and in this kernel there are not any files that would allow me to add new id line, mentioned in ubuntu. There are no main.c file and no reg.h files in arch kernel downloaded from arch website.
I had integrated ath10k driver into TK1, the way I used is re-build kernel. The way is download kernel source and copy ath10k driver to right place (it should be /kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath ), and you also need to modify Makefile and Kconfig files to add ath10k in it.Please remember to enable it when you make menuconfig, then start to build kernel and update kernel.
Ahh ok I think I realized that I completely missed the driver. :) I only downloaded the firmware previously. So I downloaded the ath10k driver from here ( ) and placed the ath10k dir to here: drivers/net/wireless/ath/. So then, in the linux-grinch-21.3.4/drivers/net/wireless/ath/Kconfig I added what you suggested:
You can access Device Manager by pressing the Windows + X keys at the same time. Update the wireless adapter driver by selecting it from the right-click menu. If you want to update your driver software automatically, select the option Search automatically. The driver will be downloaded by Windows after it has been searched and downloaded.
The ethernet network adaptator on this laptop is an Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet. After searching for some time on the web, I downloaded this compressed file : compat-drivers-2013-03-04-u.tar.bz2 found at wiki.linuxfoundation.org/networking/alx ,that I understand may contains the driver for this adaptator (reading in the compressed file it has atl1c, atl1e, atl1x and alx files).
It seemed that the compat-driver file I mentionned above contains a driver for the Atheros AR8132 (atl1c) but I don't know how to proceed with the installation of the driver from this file. I'm still unsure whether the Atheros AR8132 is supported with the firmware-atheros package as it is not listed in the devices supported.
I have found just one tip about installing this atl1c/alx driver here : https:// askubuntu.com/questions/105607/how-do-i-get-an-atheros-ar8131-ethernet-card-working (it's still more than 10 years old!)
But finally, it seems everything went fine. The Network cards were indeed automatically recognized during the installation so I could connect to the internet and download all the packages. I didn't need to install any driver. From what I checked, the atl1c driver is comprised in the OS and manages the AR8132 and the same with the ath9k driver for the AR928X wifi card. 1e1e36bf2d
